If you are looking for photos of a specific aircraft type, use this menu. Please note that, due to space constraints, this menu includes only some of the more requested aircraft in our database.
If the aircraft you're searching for is not in this list, use the 'Keywords' field further down in the search menus.
Some menu selections include a generic aircraft model, as well as more specific variants of that airliner.
These variants are denoted by a - before the aircraft name.
Selecting 'Boeing 747,' for example, will show results featuring all Boeing 747 jetliners in our database, while selecting '- Boeing 747-200' will show all Boeing 747-200 variants in our database (Boeing 747-200, Boeing 747-212B, Boeing 747-283F, etc.)
If you are looking for photos of a specific airline, use this menu.
Please note that, due to space constraints, this menu includes only airlines of which 10 or more photos exist in our database.
If the airline you're searching for is not in this list, use the 'Keywords' field further down in the search menu.
Airlines are listed in alphabetical order.
If you are looking for photos taken in a specific country, or at a specific airport, use this menu.
All countries represented in our database are included in this selection menu, which is updated automatically as the database grows.
There must be at least 20 photos from a specific airport in the database before that airport is added to this list.
Use this option to include only photos taken by a specific photographer in your search.
This pulldown menu, in addition to each photographer available as a search limiter, also shows the number of photos currently in the database for each specific photographer, enclosed in brackets.
For example, an option of: - Paul Jones .. indicates that there are 550 total photos taken by Paul Jones currently in the database.
Note: The total number of photos, enclosed in brackets, is updated four (4) times hourly, and may be slightly inaccurate.
Photographers must have 100 or more photos in the database before their name is included in this selection menu.. The 'All Photographers' selection is the default selection for this option.
If you are looking for a specific category of photo, use this menu.
You may select to display only photos from certain categories, such as Special Paintschemes, Flight Deck photos, etc. New categories are constantly being added to this list.
The 'Keywords' field is perhaps the most useful field included in our search engine. Using this field, you may search for any word, term, or combinations of terms in our database. Every photo field is covered by the Keywords search routine.
The Keywords field is ideal for searching for such specifics as aircraft registrations, photographers' names, specific airport/city names, specific paintschemes (i.e. 'Wunala Dreaming'), etc. To use the Keywords field, begin by selecting a Keyworld search field. You may select either a specific database field (airline, aircraft, etc.), or choose to match your keyword to all database fields.
Next, select a Keyword limiter. There are three options from which to choose: - is exactly - starts with - contains Select the appropriate limiter for your search, then enter the keyword(s) you wish to search in the box on the right.
The Keywords search field is not case-sensitive.
Use this option to include only photos taken in a specific year in your search.
This pulldown menu, in addition to each year available as a search limiter, also shows the number of photos currently in the database for each specific year, enclosed in brackets. For example, an option of: - 2003 .. indicates that there are 55,000 total photos taken in the year 2003 currently in the database. *Note: The total number of photos, enclosed in brackets, is updated four (4) times hourly, and may be slightly inaccurate.
Additionally, decade ranges (1990-1999, etc.) are available as selections in this menu. Selecting a decade range will show all photos matching your other search criteria from the selected decade. The 'All Years' selection is the default selection for this option.
Note: 1/50sec handheld panning during the exact moment of touchdown on left wheel (within single digit milliseconds of the touchdown moment - the wheel smoke length is less than a quarter of the length of panning motion blur, indicating that the...
Note: (1400px) Arriving from Phoenix Sky Harbor, with the snowcapped Sierra Nevada Mountains 75 miles in the distance. I've always been a fan of the old FRONTIER livery, while the new livery is nice, the old livery had photographs of the...
Note: A thunderstorm over Tahoe created an anvil extending cirrus clouds hundreds of miles to the west, which was lit up after Sundown. This former United DC-10 (N1817U, delivered 1973) was delayed just in time to pass through the colorful...
Note: The exact moment of touchdown (smoke barely visible), 1/50sec handheld panning-300mm, blue hour. The length of the touchdown smoke is shorter than the panning motion blur, implying that it was airborne when I pressed the shutter and...
Note: (1158px) 5th 777 ever built, one of the original test aircraft, made in 1994. Arriving from Honolulu. This airplane made headlines a month later, when parts of the engine fell over Colorado, that flight (UA328, DEN-HNL) landed safely.
Note: "Ghost" flaps: flaps were deployed during the 25 second exposure, so the extended flaps appear transparent (and so does the ground vehicle, because it moved). Taken during the "Golden Age" of air travel that was...2019 - as of today,...
Note: In November 2019, I flew onboard N104DU from Seattle to Fairbanks ( and got a good view of the Aurora on that flight, jetphotos.com/photo/9530866 ). In this photo, departing 01R with a nice reflection on the calm morning water, and Skywest...
Note: When I saw the airplane was going to approach a bit lower than the Moon, I ran towards the flight path as fast as I could and got there just in time to raise the camera and capture it crossing the Moon on approach to 22R.
Note: This photo took a lot of planning. I ventured far out into rural Yolo County to capture this airplane crossing the rising Moon while they are still at higher altitude, on approach to 16R. This is the infamous DC-10 involved in the FedEx...
Note: Low turn over Millbrae's hills on circle to land runway 01R (those pine trees are actually further than the aircraft, not the foreground). This is a rare approach, only done when there is extreme north wind (50+mph on this day), previously...
Note: The airplane I did my Multi Engine checkride and got Multi Engine rating. Taken some time after sundown ("nautical twilight"), when it's dark enough for longer exposures, yet under the right conditions, the sky retains it's twilight colors...
Note: A very rare, once a year circle-to-land runway 01R operation, due to 50+mph winds. I got up very early to catch some sunrise arrivals, including this one from Sydney. This was the lowest approach I saw that morning.
Note: Strong northeast winds (50+mph at airport, 80+mph in the mountains) made SFO use circle to land RWY 01 (A last minute turn without visual guidance, unlike the checkerboard at Kai Tak) for a few hours in the morning. All Nippon 8, flown by...
