If you are looking for photos of a specific aircraft type, use this menu. Please note that, due to space constraints, this menu includes only some of the more requested aircraft in our database.
If the aircraft you're searching for is not in this list, use the 'Keywords' field further down in the search menus.
Some menu selections include a generic aircraft model, as well as more specific variants of that airliner.
These variants are denoted by a - before the aircraft name.
Selecting 'Boeing 747,' for example, will show results featuring all Boeing 747 jetliners in our database, while selecting '- Boeing 747-200' will show all Boeing 747-200 variants in our database (Boeing 747-200, Boeing 747-212B, Boeing 747-283F, etc.)
If you are looking for photos of a specific airline, use this menu.
Please note that, due to space constraints, this menu includes only airlines of which 10 or more photos exist in our database.
If the airline you're searching for is not in this list, use the 'Keywords' field further down in the search menu.
Airlines are listed in alphabetical order.
If you are looking for photos taken in a specific country, or at a specific airport, use this menu.
All countries represented in our database are included in this selection menu, which is updated automatically as the database grows.
There must be at least 20 photos from a specific airport in the database before that airport is added to this list.
Use this option to include only photos taken by a specific photographer in your search.
This pulldown menu, in addition to each photographer available as a search limiter, also shows the number of photos currently in the database for each specific photographer, enclosed in brackets.
For example, an option of: - Paul Jones .. indicates that there are 550 total photos taken by Paul Jones currently in the database.
Note: The total number of photos, enclosed in brackets, is updated four (4) times hourly, and may be slightly inaccurate.
Photographers must have 100 or more photos in the database before their name is included in this selection menu.. The 'All Photographers' selection is the default selection for this option.
If you are looking for a specific category of photo, use this menu.
You may select to display only photos from certain categories, such as Special Paintschemes, Flight Deck photos, etc. New categories are constantly being added to this list.
The 'Keywords' field is perhaps the most useful field included in our search engine. Using this field, you may search for any word, term, or combinations of terms in our database. Every photo field is covered by the Keywords search routine.
The Keywords field is ideal for searching for such specifics as aircraft registrations, photographers' names, specific airport/city names, specific paintschemes (i.e. 'Wunala Dreaming'), etc. To use the Keywords field, begin by selecting a Keyworld search field. You may select either a specific database field (airline, aircraft, etc.), or choose to match your keyword to all database fields.
Next, select a Keyword limiter. There are three options from which to choose: - is exactly - starts with - contains Select the appropriate limiter for your search, then enter the keyword(s) you wish to search in the box on the right.
The Keywords search field is not case-sensitive.
Use this option to include only photos taken in a specific year in your search.
This pulldown menu, in addition to each year available as a search limiter, also shows the number of photos currently in the database for each specific year, enclosed in brackets. For example, an option of: - 2003 .. indicates that there are 55,000 total photos taken in the year 2003 currently in the database. *Note: The total number of photos, enclosed in brackets, is updated four (4) times hourly, and may be slightly inaccurate.
Additionally, decade ranges (1990-1999, etc.) are available as selections in this menu. Selecting a decade range will show all photos matching your other search criteria from the selected decade. The 'All Years' selection is the default selection for this option.
Note: The new startup vs. the established carrier... I do like the red Oasis livery! This is the first pic of B-LFC on this site... if not only the tail. The aircraft is ex-ANA JA404A. It's a very clear day and there's TWO aircraft visible on...
Note: What do you do when everything is preflighted, ready to go but the weather intervenes? Take photos of course! This is Adelaide Flight Training Center's Tobago. Years ago, this cockpit was considered quite stylish but now looks sort of...
Note: This helicopter operates on contract in South Australia during summer. It usually wears the Westpac livery. Thanks to the pilot for giving me a very short ride as he taxied it to the hangers! It was extra special for me because a few years...
Note: A lovely plane this Grob 115B. Along with sister ship JVS, it forms the Adelaide Flight Training Center fleet for training up to GFPT. Goes like a rocket compared to the 115A models at Flight Training Adelaide next door.
Note: CX105 passes the city of Adelaide on descent. Here you can see the city itself, river Torrens, the Adelaide Oval, Convention center, Casino... all the way to the Adelaide hills. I can even see my place if i squint and use my imagination!
Note: Pip Borman's Edge 540 taking off for a fantastic aerobatic display at the Jamestown Airshow 2006. Many thanks to Roger from the Pilot Shop at Parafield for driving us to Jamestown and making the day so enjoyable!
Note: Peeking out behind this lovely singaporean A320 is the tail of a new Chinese Airline. The 737 Cargo of Donghai Airlines (B-2517) has a colourful bird motif, alas it sat with it's engine covers on all day, so no chance of a real shot.
Note: At St. Maarten they gloat over how low the landings get. Here in HKG, we like to see how low the departures are. This heavy A340 was the lowest of the day, as evidenced by the fence at the bottom of the frame.
Note: My what an aircraft! We'd been waiting for this one all afternoon, but JUST as it was taking off, a group of 4 busses decides to annoy us by blocking my view as it crossed into my viewfinder. Luckily this one turned out nicely. First...
Note: Uploading some old spotting photos today, This Cathay A330 takes off on a beautiful Sydney morning, it's gears just centimeters off the ground, the exact moment that lift overcomes weight, and the airplane starts flying.
Note: Uploading some old spotting photos today, this one's from my fantastic spotting trip to Sydney in 2004. A golden hued Singapore 747 takes off. Earlier, the pilots had waved at us while we were up on ladders at the beach.
Note: Cathay Cargo passes Cathay City. Beneath the wing is the Flight Training Center, where I spent a few interesting hours once being poked and prodded by the HR team. "Look out the window, and tell me what the aircraft on the ramp is", the...
Note: The Flightdeck of a B1900C is a cramped place, and definately a hive of activity as the crew operates the 30min shuttle between Adelaide and Kingscote (the tiny terminal can be seen outside the window).
Note: This shot is a Hong Kong Spotters collaborative effort! Shot is inspired by Colin Parker's photos in the database, and is shot from Brian van Langenberg's balcony. Thanks Brian! Hong Kong International Airport in all it's splendor at dusk
Note: First shot on what became the best spotting afternoon in HKG i've ever had. Amazing weather by Hong Kong standards. Also my first attempt at a bit of motion blur - worked out rather well. Uploaded at 1600 pixels wide
Note: It was a very ordinary spotting day, neither the weather nor sunlight was in my favor, but i love the mood of this particular shot! the way that the light plays on the weathered and dirty engine cowlings in particular makes this a special...
Note: This is the view you get from the "spotting area" at the terminal. In the shot, you can see Dragonair House, Cathay City, Tung Chung, and the terminal itself. If you look closely you can just make out the new Cable Cars towards the center...
