Notes:

The ruins of the medieval Cistercian Abbey of Tintern glow in the autumn sunshine 2,700ft below us as we bank over the Wye Valley, one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain (as it’s known at the time of writing). The river meanders in loops and ribbons through the woodland hillsides of the Forest of Dean as the river Severn widens into its estuary through Gloucestershire beyond, punctuated by the Berkeley nuclear power station on the far shore above the wing-tip. (Many thanks to Graham Clark for making the picture possible.)
