This aircraft is very rare as only six J.5R Alpines were built in total, and this is one of only two in Australia. It was registered new in the UK as G-APCX on 26 June 1957 and subsequently passed through a number of owners, including the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield. In 1978 it was imported into Australia along with a number of other UK Austers by the late Sander Veenstra and registered VH-KBV on 23 February 1979. Withdrawn from service in '82: in '87 commenced a rebuild, flying again April '88.
