- Tartu Raadi Air Force Base (Closed) - EETR, Estonia
Raadi used to be Soviets 8th largest Airforce base, home to the 132nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment, and it was so top secret that Tartu was closed to the outer world until Estonia gained their independence, it was even forbidden to say the name of the base out loud. The base had Tu-16 and Tu-22M nuclear weapons carriers and in the proximity was ramps to fire nuclear missiles. Today nature is taking over the buildings and the runway will be removed very soon. Plans are to build Estonias new national museum where the runway is now, which I think is sad as this is a piece of cold war history.
