This aircraft was built as a test vehicle to explore low speed handling and landing characteristics with a lifting body aircraft. It first flew in 1976, taking off under it's own power and flying 19 miles. It made eight further flights before the project was cancelled in favour of the Buran Space shuttle project in 1978.
