“Enola Gay” on display at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, NASM. This is a Silverplate conversion that was assigned to the 509th Composite Group. After dropping the first atomic weapon on Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, the B-29 flew on Op. Crossroads, before being stored in the USA. Due to deterioration outdoors, restoration by NASM lasted almost two decades.
