There’s my old airplane! Not “mine” as far as ownership, but I reserved this airplane countless times as I was getting my Private ticket at KSJC at the Jet Center. 739HE was a particularly junky airplane, inside and out. Ripped seats, not equipped for headsets, an absolutely horrible and old/faded paint job, and the absolute worst of all was the rear window and most of the front windscreen. They were old and not taken care of at all. Glazed over to the point that there might as well have not even been a rear window. Just slap a piece of sheet metal over it and you’ll have the same amount of rear vis. But now, it looks great in this photo! They replaced the taxi/landing lights with bright white LEDs. I’d love to see the interior. The pilot in this photo has a David Clark in, so I’m assuming they finally fixed all of the Comm panels and plugs. It really was a POS and that’s why it was always available for rent. Nobody wanted it. I think the wet rate was $99/hr. This was a long time ago—-1989. My ground school teacher at Foothill College was the wife of the KPIX Channel 5 guy, Dave Mcelhatton (I’m certain I spelled that wrong). Thank you for taking a picture of this airplane! Interesting memories! My favorite 172 to charter was N65658. It looks like that airplane is at RHV also. I did my FAA check-ride in that plane with Lori Latimer.
