Built by Agusta Westlands, the Merlin HM1 was actually an integrated weapons system for which the contractor was Lockheed Martin. Intended as a deep water anti-submarine aircraft, its development was protracted by the additional requirement for it to operate in inshore waters after the cold-war submarine threat diminished. The Royal Navy operates 44 of the type, this one being assigned to HMS Westminster. It is seen here at the Threshold Aero Kemble night photo shoot.
