Before ‘Wheels-Up Landing’ - Stbd side view of Privately owned Chance Vought F4U-5N Corsair VH-III Cn A10-353 taxying out at Maitland YMND NSW on 28Jan2017. This photo was taken at 0904hrs, just before a short Test Flight, before the opening of the 2017 Hunter Valley Airshow. Unfortunately, the pilot experienced a main wheel extension failure, and landed 'wheels up’. The pilot exited the aircraft un-injured. The aircraft was recovered two hours later, with bent propeller blades and scraped flaps. This ex Honduras Air Force Corsair (FAH-608) – the First Corsair on the Australian Register - was Built in 1951 and was First Registered in Australia on 14Feb2013. It is fitted with a P&W R2800-32(E) radial engine.
