Wings World War Two Remembrance Museum. On 2nd April 1944, this airframe took off from the Salmiyarvy and Mayatalo air stations area to patrol with 8 Bell P-39 Aircobra fighters. On its return, it was attacked by a pair of German Messerschmitt Bf 109's, severely damaged by cannon fire and forced to make a landing on the ice at Lake Memekyavr. The crew were rescued the following day. The aircraft sank and spent 57 years underwater before being recovered in 2003.
