The Regional Airport of Zona da Mata (IATA: IZA / ICAO: SBZM) is an airport located in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, between the cities of Rio Novo and Goianá. Primarily serves the city of Juiz de Fora, located 35 km, Uba, located 64 km and Cataguases, located 75 km. It is administered by the company Multiterminais Bonded Brazil. The operations of commercial passenger flights were started on 23 August 2011. The airport is the first airport in Brazil implemented using a master plan previously prepared by the Air Force Command (Third Comar). It was built in order to meet the micro-exporting regions of Zona da Mata, as Juiz de Fora, Uba, Muriaé, Barbacena, São João del Rei and Viçosa, besides serving as a commercial passenger terminal to replace the Airport Francis of Assisi (Serrinha-Juiz de Fora). The company that won the bid for the implementation and construction of the first stage was the Queiroz Galvao. Work began in 2001 and completed in 2003, the Government of Minas Gerais, its owner. The airport is operational for daytime visual conditions and, since September 25, 2008. Instrument flight for aircraft approved for GPS approach can be made ​​from September 28, 2011.
