1600px High up in the mountains of Pakistan lies a small town by the name of Gilgit. After seeing these photos I just knew I had to get up there to catch them. Having only 2 flights a day from Islamabad (both within half hour of each other and weather dependant) this was not an easy task. To get to this location I endured a 36 hour journey from Lahore by road. The flight time is only 45minutes, but a two week waiting list for flights was not an option! Upon arriving at the airport, AP-BHM had just arrived. I had already missed the earlier flight. The time was 8am and the heat was already unbearable, the high snow capped mountains did little to cool us down. I would like to thank fellow Jetphotos.net photographer Mr Asuspine for all his help in catching this at Gilgit and also all the help he gave me in Karachi :). Would also like to thank Mr Khalfan and Mr Zaheer for all their help in the mountains and around the airport. Gilgit airport lies 4,921ft above sea level. The air is thin, this ATR was (as you can see from the air disturbance on the runway) belting down the runway at full power in order to gain as much height as possible before closing in on the high peaks that surround Gilgit airport. Unfortunately our return flight from Skardu was cancelled, so another 36hour drive back :(. Look forward to going back to Gilgit one day. Far in the back ground you can just see 'City Park', this will be cleared for a runway extension (paid for by Emirates) to allow larger aircraft to use this airport.

Great catch Murt! It's one of my preferred point of view!
Superb shot Murt, so much is in the composition from the stunning backdrop and the runway perspective to the little dust devils. Something for me to aspire too.
Excellent shot my friend. It's a well deserved People's Choice.
