Bangalore leads India as the leader in air-freight usage as a percentage of GSDP, thanks to its high-tech industry and the lack of a sea-port. Lufthansa is a major carrier to Bangalore with an MD-11 Freighter service. Cargo is unloaded and loaded quickly and the aircraft is turned around in under 90 minutes. The photo shows classic cargo operations. Large size pallets are loaded on the main deck from the right, smaller pallets in to the belly from the left, and in the background is a provision for loading last minute urgent cargo which cannot be palletised. Unlike passenger operations where the human boarding is from the left of the plane, in cargo operations it is from the right to prevent any fouling with the main cargo door.
