Fokker updated the venerable F-27 with modern engines and electronics and a redesigned cabin in 1983 as the Fokker 50, but production ended in 1996 when Fokker folded. The type remains the mainstay of Belgian regional Vlaamse Luchttransportmaatschappij (VLM), which has the biggest fleet to serve destinations in the UK. This one (named City of Rotterdam) is seen here having just turned off Runway 23R with lights blazing on a gloomy autumn afternoon.
