Notes:

Rare 1964 photo of RAAF 11 Sqn Neptune P-2V-5 A89-312 (formerly A89-405) at Laverton. A crewman sits on the Neppy's fuselage while waiting to do a demonstration flight at the 1964 RAAF Laverton Airshow. The Wright Cyclone and Westinghouse J-34 Jet engines are clearly visible. The aircraft has external power connected from a Ground Power Unit (at right). This aircraft was Delivered to 11 Sqn on 30Jan1953, and was broken up at Bankstown NSW in Nov 1968. This aircraft was USN Bu 133651, and was named 'The Longest Day'. Between Jan 1955 and Jul 1956 she had 'Port Noise Complaint' - Port Engine trouble, oil leaks, Port Engine Change, and two Port Engine In-Flight Shut-Downs! Sadly, Sister-Ship A89-308 crashed near Richmond 50 years ago (on 05Feb1959) with the loss of all eight crew members. The Neppy was limping back to base with a blazing Port engine, when the wing separated at 50 feet over the Hawkesbury River (RIP). Low res photo. Apologies for low quality.
