Upgraded from the ‘H’ variant, this Mirage 2000I of No. 7 Sqn. “Battle Axes” stands on static display at Aero India 2021 on a hot day. Formed in 1942, the Squadron has been in the thick of things during World War II, 1965, 1971 and Kargil. It was the first IAF Squadron to be equipped with the Mirage 2000 or “Vajra” in 1985, named after the divine weapon of Indra. The Battle Axes proved decisive over Kargil in 1999 with their pinpoint bombing accuracy to destroy Pakistani positions on mountain tops.
