Low res close-cropped early morning view of the Instrument Panel of ‘Aero Tropics Air Services’ Aero Commander 500S ‘Shrike Commander’ VH-WZU Cn 3060 at Cairns Airport YBCS on 01Jul2006. My wife and I flew to Horn Island YHID in this aircraft that morning - a 2.4 hour trip which was over the sea for half of the flight. (My first flight in an Aero Commander.) Sadly, this aircraft (Built in 1970) disappeared on approach to Horn Island on 24Feb2011 (when operated by Flightech Pty Ltd), and was found on the sea bed on 10Oct2011, 26 km NNW off Horn Island, Queensland. The aircraft had impacted the sea at low speed, and the Pilot was listed as a fatality. Condolences are extended to the Pilot’s family and friends. (This is my 2700th photo Accepted by JP.)
