On display at NMUSAF. The P-61 was America’s first aircraft specifically designed as a night fighter, later serving as a night intruder over Europe. Equipped with the SCR-720 airborne intercept radar, it was heavily armed with four .50-caliber machine guns in the upper turret and four 20 mm cannons in the belly. This Black Widow is painted as “Moonlight Serenade” of the 550th NFS serving in the Pacific in 1945. P-61 “Lady in the Dark” of 548th NFS was credited with the last kill of World War II.
