Rare close-cropped front Port side view of RAAF (Air Force) UH-1H Huey A2-509 Cn 9509 Code 509 aboard HMAS TOBRUK, near Penang Island, Malaysia on 17Apr1982. This SAR Iroquois, operated by RAAF Transport Support Flight (TSF) had just completed a flight from Butterworth, landing on TOBRUK while in transit. RAN crew are lowering the Huey below decks through a ‘small’ deck hatch, using an on-board crane. The RMAF took over SAR at WMKB in April 1982, and A2-509 (and A2-506) was shipped to 9 Squadron Amberley aboard HMAS TOBRUK. [A2-509 was Delivered to 5 Squadron Fairbairn in Feb 1968, ex US Army 67-17311 as a UH-1D. She was upgraded to UH-1H (when fitted with a Lycoming T53-L13 engine) and was transferred to the PNGDF in Aug 1989 after retirement.].
