Low res close-cropped rear Stbd view of RAAF 5 Squadron UH-1B Huey A2-718 Cn 718, hover-taxying from the apron near Hangar 46 at RAAF Base Fairbairn (Canberra ACT) in August 1968. The Iroquois was acquired through US Army Foreign Military Sales (FMS) ex 63-9788. A2-718 was Delivered 03Jan1964. Crashed 23Mar1972, ex-Fairbairn ACT. (Ref: ADF-Serials). I participated in the Court of Inquiry Investigation of the crash of A2-718 in the D442 Training area near Bungendore NSW. The helicopter lost power at low level and settled into Eucalyptus (gum) trees. The Huey suffered a severely fractured cabin floor after the tailboom caught in the fork of a tree. Both Pilots escaped with minor injuries.
