Notes:

The A310 prototype. First flight April 3 1982 with Airbus Industrie F-WZLH test registration. Delivered Swissair March 21 1984 as HB-IPE with asymmetric paint scheme (the port side was Lufthansa), highlighting the two launch customers of the A310 family. The only problem with this dual paint scheme was, that the launch customers were ordered the type with different engines. Swissair flew with Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4D1, but Lufthansa with General Electric CF6-80A3 engines. GE did not like – even for promotional reasons – that an A310 aircraft wearing Lufthansa livery appears with a GE sticker on engine cowling of the rival manufacturer. As far as I know, this is why the Pratt & Whitney logo appeared on the Swissair’s starboard side only. Seen here on final approach Hellinikon from Zurich. June 20 1995 to Air Liberte as F-GPDJ. Soon after that converted to freighter (F), and February 21 1997 to Federal Express as N450FE. Stored May 2015. Scanned from an old slide.
