The Vulcan B.2 was designed to be the launch platform for a new generation of 'stand off' nuclear weapons, such as the Avro designed Blue Steel missile (Under the wing). XJ824 entered service in early 1961 with 27 Squadron at RAF Scampton. It also Served with 9 Squadron, 230 OCU, Cottesmore Wing, Waddington Wing, Akrotiri, 35 Squadron, 44 Squadron, 101 Squadron and finally flew into IWM Duxford in March 1982
