This is a beautiful picture of a Martin 404. The setting is perfect, what a photo. Not many pictures have been been taken of the Martin 404. In the 50's the 404 flew with Eastern, TWA, Southern and other airlines of the era. It was a very well designed aircraft, very easy to look at. The Coast Guard had several probably less than 7. The 404 stood tall along side the Convair 340 which is also a beautiful aircraft. The DC-3, 404 and Convair were the main planes that made many small feeder airlines their bread and butter. I saw the Eastern and TWA Martins at Washington National Airport in the 50's and 60's. No jetliner ever had the style and grace of the 404. When those recipts fired up and the gray smoke belched out of those stacks it was a sight to behold. When the 404 rumbled down the runway it made a one of a kind deep mean sound that let everyone in hearing distance know a work of art was on the way into the wild blue yonder to beautify the sky. Without your photography of the 404 what I said about the aircraft means nothing. It's been said only photograph can capture that special moment in time and perserve it forever. You captured a perfect photo of a 404. widmarc clark
