This Ex Mandarin machine sparked an emergency situation at Edinbugh today. The captain 1st reported an overheating APU then fire in the APU compartment. You can clearly see the result of the fire extinguisher firing. Gladly everything turned out OK and the aircraft returned to Amsterdam for maintenance.

The rusty/brown mark aft of the Apu outlet is infact Extinguisher fluid from the built in Fire System of the APU. After the pilots discharge the extinguisher the fluid will run out of the APU outlet and bring soot and oil debris with it from the APU engine. This mark is not the result of flames/major fire. The A/C is now flying again minus this mucky mark.
