Rare view of RAN VF-805 A-4G Skyhawk N13-154910 Cn 13783 Code 889 taxying past the 76 Squadron Mirage Flightline at RAAF Williamtown and 2OCU Macchi MB-326H at right, in 1970. (Note the straight AAR probe, which was later modified to a 'bent' configuration, to reduce the chance of fuel going down the engine intake during AAR.) This aircraft was Delivered to the RAN in Nov 1967. She crashed on take-off from HMAS Melbourne near Singapore on 08Nov1973, due to catapult failure. The Pilot stayed in the sinking aircraft as the carrier passed over it. He freed himself underwater and was picked up by helicopter. Improved (brightened) Edit posted 22Mar2015.
