A nice view of the General Electric TF39 on this C-5 Galaxy. The unique 1 1/2 stage fan consists of a smaller diameter fan on the front surrounded by stator vanes and a full diameter fan behind. The TF39 was the first high bypass turbofan engine developed and served as the parent to the highly successful GE CF6 engine. The CF6-80 will replace the TF39 in the C-5M program. Photo from Grand Forks AFB, 2006 air show.
