I loved those colours! Flew on this particular aircraft at least twice, and if I'm not mistaken, Austral's MD-81s were the first MD-80s to enter revenue service in the world, back in January '81. In their 22 years of service, Austral's MD-81s operated alongside BAC 1-11s, their ancestral DC-9-30s, and now B732s. With the arrival of the B732s, which are all late-build, the MD-81 unusually became the oldest aircraft in Austral's fleet! Nonetheless, these planes are beautifully kept and actually look half their age from up close. They were US-registered until 1996 for some reason.
