I'm sure the KLM longhaul fleet manager will be very unimpressed with this picture. I can assure you that pilots, especially of big aeroplanes, do not try to land prior to the touchdown point and in many airlines this would be seen as a serious incident and some effort would go into analysing the approach in order to ensure that the chance of it happening again are reduced. This time the "safety margins built into aviation saved the day, but phew, you are right, scary stuff. Excellent timing with the shutter. July 18, 2006

It truly amazes me as to how nimble these pilots can be with 400 tons and know exactly where that barbed wire is!! This pilots goal is probably get it just a little closer every time they cross Maho Beach! Unless this was an innocent miscalculation. Please!! This is why we love SXM!!
