My understanding is that they removed the engines to signify to U.S. Warplanes that the aircraft on the ground are not a threat.
I notice that most of the engines are gone, too. Removed as loot, or stored away to protect them from the coming onslaught (which would've been prudent of the airline's management, since the engines are, by and large, the most valueable part of the plane). Any thoughts?
I have heard from an american soldier who inspected the aircraft that the indiseds have been guttered. Floors ripped up and cables and wires severed, the 747SP especially. Can you say if this is true or not? If so it is really a sad day. Yet more 747SP's grounded.
