Notes:

"TURKISH 4 YANKEE NOVEMBER" operating flight TK1039 from Istanbul (IST/ LTFM) is seen touching down on runway 26L at Bucharest Henri Coanda on a sunny winter afternoon. Notice the predatory bird under the horizontal stabilizer. It is very hard to distinguish from here but I believe the bird of prey visible in this photo could be the Common buzzard (Buteo buteo). This photo got accepted into the database on January 16th, and since it features birds, it feels fitting to recall an important event in aviation history that also occurred around this date. On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 lost thrust in both engines after hitting a flock of geese shortly after take-off from LaGuardia Airport in New York. Remarkably, less than four minutes after the bird strike, the aircraft successfully ditched in the Hudson River. All 155 passengers and crew aboard survived—evidence of extraordinary teamwork, skill, and knowledge.
