Notes:

[1800px] Preserved at Italian Air Force museum of Vigna di Valle. Developed by the Macchi MC.202, the first MC.205 flew in April 1942. Faster and more armed than its predecessor, thanks to the higher power of the DB 605 engine and the installation - for the first time on an Italian fighter - of two 20 mm Mauser guns in the wings, the 205 was at the level (and in some respects higher) of enemy and allied aircraft; this improvement in performance was possible, however, to the detriment of the smoothness and quickness of maneuver that characterized the MC.202. Compared to the other fighters of the "5 Series" (the aircraft equipped by the DB 605 were so called; Fiat G.55 and Reggiane Re.2005), the "Veltro" had a smaller wing area and for this reason it was intended to be used for combat at medium altitudes. In 1943 it was supplied to the 4th Wing and to some Squadrons of the 51st and 3rd Wing of the Italian Air Force; equipped, in a special version, the 310 ^ Aero photographic squadron of Guidonia (Rome). Numerous examples of MC.205 also became part of the Fighter Squadrons of the Aviation of the Italian Social Republic. After the conflict, after a short period at the 5th Wing, the 205 was destined for the Schools. The model on display was built by the Breda workshops in 1942 by modifying an MC.202 X series and bears the colors of a cobelligerant aircraft.
