October is my favourite month in Pretoria, with all of the Jacaranda trees in full bloom, painting the city a beautiful shade of purple. These trees provide a suitably Pretorian backdrop to this former South African Air Force Mirage F1CZ, preserved inside the grounds of the University of Pretoria. The Mirage F1CZ was an interceptor variant of the Mirage F1, designed specifically for the needs of the SAAF. 16 examples of this type were operated by the SAAF from 1975 until their retirement in 1992. This particular airframe was donated to the University of Pretoria by the SAAF in 1996, and was put on display in 2010.
