First registration of Z3045. Mi-8, a medium twin-turbine assault helicopter was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 1972. IAF’s 45 years old iconic aircraft, reliable, medium lift Mi-8 attack and utility helicopter symbolically flew for the last time in December 2017. Through its glorious service career, the Mi-8 did not just establish itself as mainstay of the helicopter operations, but also left an indelible mark on the future by providing the IAF with a lineage of professional aircrew. The Mi-8 Helicopters, named Pratap by the IAF were part of Sri Lanka operations in 1987 and Siachen Glacier operations in 1989. IAF also utilized them for humanitarian, search & rescue, disaster operations. Mi-8 has also been associated with VIP/VVIP flying for over decades. This particular Mi-8 is placed at Shankumugham Beach Park, Thiruvananthapuram right next to Trivandrum International Airport, Kerala.
